The two Airships sat in the hangar as men and women of the Winged Foxes worked feverishly loading up equipment and vehicles into both the massive Airships. The Huskies mechanics tinkered about the Sapphire Ruby's engines, with Wrench cursing like a sailor. He rolled out from under the forward engine on the starboard side, covered in grease, grime, and ash. Setting the goggles onto his cap, he wiped his hands off on an already filthy rag, then put the rag over his shoulder, the rag covering the Husky head logo stitched onto his overalls.

He bit down on the toothpick he held between his teeth, getting up and slowly moving to the rear of the airship to the next massive engine, looking at the three working on it. "Moi' need ta work on th' forward engine s'more. 'ow's th' Burnin' Sky?"

"She should be ready for take-off in a bit! When's departure time?"

"Shou' be in a li'l whoile, so's stop th' cluckin' an git ta wark, ya jits!" Wrench went back over to the forward engine, getting back to work on trying to get the Ruby airborne.

Demetrius leant against a supporting beam of the hangar's construction, watching the Airships reworked like ants over half an orange. Cradling the PPSh-41 in his arms, Demetrius gently buffed the wooden stock and lovingly-polished metal of the receiver with a leather shammy. "We have work to do..." He muttered to himself in Dessarian, recollecting the words used by those who had informed him; "The mechanics have the work to do; but me? Less work to be done here..." Currently, he added in the privacy of his own mind.

Turning the gun over, he continued buffing the underside. He was wearing his combat belt now, imbued with drum magazines for the PPSh, and two holsters holding both Raging Bull .454's. Across his chest under his coat now lay a crossed-bandoleer of .454 Cassul rounds. By his side sat a carry-all, weighted with concealed objects, and on his back sat his battle-machete, held upside down and tilted to the right.

"Still... Norune is close to home," He mused out-loud, before adding, "Not as closer to home as some in this place; but close enough. And if its anything like the time I last went-" Demetrius stared with hindsight at the stalls selling everything from exotic substances to exotic people bound in chains and barely any clothing. "-It shall be interesting..."

Walking back into the hangar from rounding up all the miscellaneous people required for the trip, Seba nodded to a few of the mechanics; then stopped to look at the Sapphire Ruby for a few moments before continuing on her route. "It's still a strange name..." She went over to a work table and picked up a file containing some information on the trip, and briefly read through it before walking over to the mechanics to check on their progress. She was expecting nearly everything that could go wrong in Norune to go wrong; down to the Ruby getting gutted to her skeleton by some fast-acting highwayman with a wrench and blowtorch that came wondering along and found her unguarded.

Seba had with her a large leather shoulder bag; in it being items that Norune traders (reputable ones or not) would love to barter for. Her person consisted of her two glocks; extra full magazines for each included. A ka-bar was strapped to her left leg and her kilij was mounted on her back exactly like Demetruis'; it was a Dessarian weapons tactic.

Sighing, there wasn't much for her to do at the present moment, and she took a seat at one of the stools against the wall; waiting.

Mac walked into the hangar area, drinking another mug of coffee he brewed. In his other hand he held a clipboard. Blinking slowly, he set the mug of coffee down on a crate as he looked around, pulling the clipboard up. He flipped through pages, skimming through the words. He scratched the side of his head, his helmet tilting to the side at a fairly odd angle.

He already had his parachute, emergency chute, and inflatable life vest donned on him. His sawed off was strapped down to his leg, and his revolver was securely held down in its holster. His boarding axe was strapped down to his other leg, the Ka bar sheathed on his chest. He was weighed down with medical equipment as well.

He set down the clipboard and picked up the mug of coffee again, continuing to drink.

Lepper stretched some, walking into the hangar bay and looking up at the two massive airships already undergoing preparations for their little excursion into Norune. He felt a hell of a lot better after visiting Medic for the drip. He also figured she probably also cured him of any ailment he might of gotten from drinking Mac's coffee brew.

He stepped forward towards his Mustang, already being carried up by a crane to the Ruby's fighter hold. The Burning Sky was also loading up its aircraft and pilots, and by the looks of things, the two airships were ahead of schedule. The only thing bothering Lep now was the presence of the Huskies still working feverishly on the Ruby's massive radial engine near the front, and Wrench cursing like an insane drill sergeant that had recently stubbed his toe.

Moving to the intercom system, he picked up the red telephone and cleared his throat. The speakers crackled to life.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. Today we embark on a small trip to Norune to purchace some items... as well as liberate other items." A small bit of laughter was heard. "Now, before we begin, we gotta lay down some ground rules here." There was a sea of groans heard, but he continued on. "First and foremost, you WILL be granted leave from the ship during our stay, but you must remain in groups or be armed at all times. The place has lots of slavers and highwaymen, and the last thing I need to hear is people had to be bailed out from a slave trade stand or ended up coming back to the ship with nothing but two fig leaves covering them. Secondly, I don't have to remind you what happened last time we angered the local law enforcement, so I don't want you people starting up any more bar brawls. If this is not adhered to, you're gonna report to the Commissar, and God help you if she's in a bad mood. Thirdly, don't go eating everything on the stands. Medic's last concern on this trip will be taking care of someone who ended up suffering from dysentary. Last, but not least, there must always be a group of at least twenty guarding the airships at all times. Anyone that comes near them that ain't us should be shot at to shoo them away. Other than that, have a pleasant trip."

He hung up the red phone, then moved towards the two airships.

Medic walked in carrying supplies with two of her nurses at the beginning of the announcement. "Great.. Dysentery. Even better would be if the stuff was laced with arsenic or some other fun substance.." she mused aloud to herself, the nurses giggling at the comment.

She was now dressed in more of an officer's uniform than that of medical personnel; as going on a trip such as this one in a lab coat and high heels was impractical. Her heels had been replaced with boots, though the skirt had been changed out for a different one with more pockets that were already filled with select supplies. The only weapon she had on her was a 9mm handgun, which was holstered securely at her side. It was only there as a precautionary last resort; she didn't really plan on using it.

"Wow.. Mac beat us here. Impressive." She commented, spotting him loafing about. Proceeding to load up the supplies on the air ship, there wasn't much for her to do as well but to wait.

Demetrius looked upwards as the speakers burst into life, brimming with the Captain's static-riddled voice. A wide grin spreading over his face at the line ...Or to be armed at all times..., he soon gave a laugh. "Don't worry, I'm not laying arms down for anyone, except maybe the under-taker, and he'll have his work cut out!" His voice raised, and language sticking to Dessarian for the time being, Demetrius soon hauled the PPSh-41 over his back next to the machete, tucked the shammy into his belt so it hung over his front pocket, before picking up the Carry-all and making his way towards the bigger of the two ships in less of a bee-line than a around-the-houses fashion.

On the way, he stopped beside Seba, and smiled. "I see you have sword in Dessarian Battle position?" He commented, before switching to his home language; "Tell me, Seba, How is your Dessarian these days?" She obviously had a history with his homeland. Just how much of a history, he was curious to find out.

A wide grin appeared before looking up at Demetrius; replying in the language. "Well enough I assume. There is no one here that spoke it before you came so I kept up on spare time. Are you excited about the trip?" she replied, standing up; happy that she was getting to converse in Dessarian again.

Mac furrowed his brow at the sight of Medic. "Oh goody, Charon's escort arrived." He slowly moved over towards where they were, mug in hand. "Listen you, I take this job seriously, and I will sure as hell be prepped up and ready to go out onto the field faster than you ever can, toots." He dragged out the last word. He was probably gonna pay dearly for it, but to him, whatever she could dish out at him would totally be worth it.

"Toots, eh?" She said with a small grin of anger, turning and walking slowly over to him; stopping when she was standing directly in front of him with about an inch of space between the two of them. The nurses knew that a battle was soon to ensue, and fled the scene. "The only two things you can do faster than me is fall asleep on the job, and kill a patient." she said with a smile of pure venom. "Now do me a favor, and make sure that if you're treating someone that they arrive to me in a state that I can work on them; and not one that was worse than when they reached you." She then grabbed him by the neck, jerked him down, and kneed him in the stomach; hard. It was retribution for the name calling. Walking away, she called back to him; "don't die of internal bruising over there; apparently you have a job to do."

The Norune Trade Route _
PostSubject: Re: The Norune Trade Route   The Norune Trade Route Icon_minitimeFri Jul 09, 2010 2:29 pm

There was a lot of work to do, that was obvious by the way the airships were getting pulled apart and improved. The hangers were brimming with energy and activity, mostly mechanics, but there were a lot of onlookers as well. A new face was one of those peering over the happenings of that day.

Allestrial Victoria Adamani was a woman born of Levanian heritage and raised in the ranks of it's military might. Her youth was spent in the Navy Academy, before she was assigned to diesel submarines. But now, settling in with this band of adventurers and pirates, she was the Captain of the Burning Sky in the absence of her old commander, Dormant Evil-Sama. The official reports on what had happened to the woman were not clear. But the new captain, a woman that didn't tolerate slackness or lazy attitudes knew one thing.

The Burning Sky was too grand an airship to be waisted on an undisciplined and second rate crew.

From her personal observations and inspections of the living quarters and the conditions on board the airship she was certain that much had to change. The crew was slack, they needed harsher training, and most of all they needed discipline.

She had conducted interviews with her entire crew, spending a good hour on each person, filling in the holes their personnel files seemed to be full of. This had taken weeks, but finally she had sent them all out a letter, some would be expected to attend training, some would be kept the same, some promoted and some demoted.

There would be discomfort and hatred towards her, but many would also see they were meant to do much greater things. She was one person who hated being kept down to make others feel better.

Heading down the Burning Sky's stairs that led down onto the docking platforms, she began her inspection of the work, to determine if progress was on time. She did not see any confrontation between the medics, and was not interested in eavesdropping on the foreign language that the Desserians spoke.

Demetrius smirked a little. Her wording was good; the accent was off, but who could blame anyone for that, being out of Dessarian company and surrounded by contagious Gaian accents for so long? After speaking Gaian for so long - that was patchy at most - it was nice to be able to relax into his own, native tongue.
"To be honest, I am." He replied with a grin. "If its anything like the last time I went; it'll be interesting, to say the least..." He replied in Dessarian, scratching his neck gently. "Maybe I can find that fuel-line, huh. And anything else I need;

Mac coughed and sputtered, grabbing at his gut as he stumbled a bit, keeping himself supported on one of the nearby crates. He got to his feet, frowning some as he looked over at the retreating form of Medic. No one was looking.

His hand went instinctively for his gun, letting it hover over the butt of the pistol for a while. It would be easy.. Whipping it out and blasting her once between the shoulder blades. His hand went further to his side pant pocket, slipping out the flask, opening it, then taking a good, long drink of the amber liquid now pouring down his throat.

The Whiskey helped out plenty, but he still wished he could end it now.

Blood Debt, Mac. That's what you got. That's what you promised me.

He shook his head. Great... now he's talking to me beyond the grave.... He capped the flask and pocketed it, slowly going back to the clipboard and reviewing it.

He stopped, going to the intercom and picking up the phone.

"Attention, all personnel. You'll be given mandatory air sickness bags and pills. Unfortunately, due to some odd crap thing of some unpronounceable disease found, all shore leave is hearby suspended. You can all thank Medic for that. That is all..."

With a grin, he quickly hung it up and ran over into the Ruby to flee.

Ignoring the loud speaker announcement due to knowing it was somehow part of their feuding, Seba continued conversing with Demetrius. "If it exists, will be in Norune. That is the traders motto there, and so far has always been true. And if it is not, you can get information about where to find thing you are looking for. Last time I was there was... six months ago" She counted it out on her fingers; though the number showed seven. "And was interesting as well. Had to stop slavers from taking some crew men." She grinned. "Though, we must be going now, getting late; we can talk later." With a nod to Demetrius she walked off to find Lepper.

Finding Lepper, she walked up beside him. "It's nearing 1600; is everything ready, or is Wrench still making repairs?"

"Oh no you did not...!" she muttered to herself as Medic ran to the red phone amidst a sea of groans and glares pointed at her direction. "Attention please.. Belay that last announcement, shore leave is NOT suspended; there is no unpronounced disease other than Mac's delusion. though if you need the air sickness equipment feel free to use it. That is all." With a sigh she hung up the phone, knowing she deserved that in a way. Walking away from the phone, she got back to the preparations she was making for the flight.

Lepper didn't look at her, but did acknowledge the Commissar with a side wave. "He says we can make the trip, but we gotta start praying if we have to gun the engines." The cowling was heard getting shut and a nod from Wrench high above was all that was given.

"To be safe, he and the mechanics will be coming with us on the Ruby. The Sky will be coming with us as well in case there's trouble." He looked over at her with a nod. "Get 'em on board, up, and out." He walked off onto the Ruby, giving a wave to several crew members and disappearing into the airship.

"... Why wasn't this done beforehand, or the trip delayed if the ship was being worked on.." She said; crossing her arms with a scowl. Going over to the red phone that everyone seemed to love playing with today, Seba cleared her throat before picking it up. "Attention; we're about to head off. Report to your assigned station immediately. You have three minutes." Hanging the phone up a small panic ensued; people scurrying about getting last minute details completed.

Grabbing her bag, Seba watched the last of the crew file into either the Ruby or the Sky. Getting into the Ruby herself, she found Lepper and with a nod told him that everything was set for departure.

Mac heard the hurried boot falls of the other Foxes, scampering to get aboard, work about the ship to get the mooring lines off, or to get to their positions. He stepped out and headed to the Ruby's, medical ward, eying the Combat Medics assembled there.

He started giving out roll call, hoping the guy in the next airship was doing the same. Just as expected, 5 of his staff would remain at the Den for those left there guarding it.

Left and right, group leaders called out all present in the airship, though they did it in their own way.

When it was Mac's turn to say so, he simply gave a thumb up, then dismissed his formation.

The mooring lines fell from the airships, as ground crew scampered in every direction. Lep looked about the large bay within the Ruby, nodding.

He turned to the flight crew of the airship, grinning. "Alright, let's get her up and out, people." He walked into the bridge, picking up the phone to the intercom. "All crew, prepare for takeoff, everyone to your stations."

After a minute or so, the slow ascent was felt under their feet. The sound of the prop engines soon gave the distinct humming heard in the background, but was quiet enough not to get annoying.

The ship slowly began to move forward towards the opening of the den, sunlight flooding the bridge's windows. They were on their way.

Demetrius was on the ramp by the time the mooring ropes loosed and the rotary engines burst into life, and had time to wave the docks behind, before stepping through the door, the ramp falling away from the doorway soon after. Closing, and locking the door behind him with the wheel.
"Well, ain't this dandy..." Demetrius said quietly, before looking around the world he currently faced.

Looking at his bag of stuff, and the various equipment plastered over his person, Demetrius sighed, and after following several signs - which admittedly he had to squint at, and pronounce slowly - found the Barracks. To some extent they seemed somewhat individual - or at least with multiple rooms, and soon Demetrius dumped his carry-all at the end of the sleeping furniture, before clambering into it, and resting his head on his hands.

Medic kept her eyes down as she walked through a corridor, her hand going along the wall as she went. It's not that she didn't like airplanes or that she was motion sick; she just didn't like heights and would rather not look out the windows. Finally reaching the barracks, Medic opened the door of her assigned quarters and flopped down on the the bed. Rolling over on her side, she figured it'd be over much faster if she slept through the entire trip.

Standing on the bridge for the liftoff process, it seemed everything was going smoothly so far. It was fortunate for the amount of cursing Wrench was doing earlier. Walking over and standing near the side wall of the bridge, Seba watched the Ruby gain altitude and speed as they headed on their way. It would take approximately ten hours to get to Norune; meaning that since they took off at 1600 they would be landing at 200 the next day. Most, if not all, vendors would be closed at that time; so it would give all those who weren't on guard duty a small chance to rest before going out at decent hours.

Taking leave from the bridge, Seba left to make sure everything was running smoothly elsewhere on the ship, and started walking down the corridors.

Mac sat in his quarters, a cigarette in his mouth as he puffed away, staring out the window. Another trip, another batch of rookies getting the clap from both prostitutes and whatever diseases they carried. He just hoped it only came to that, and not anything else more serious. Though, with the luck he'd been having today, he doubt that would happen.

Sitting up, he opened the porthole, tossing the spent cigarette butt out and watching it twist and twirl in the mercy of the wind. Blinking slowly, he closed the porthole and headed over to the samll table in his room, opening up a book and beginning to read.

The movement of the airship was strange. It was almost too smooth on the wind, especially compared to most fighters. Sitting up, Demetrius crawled to the edge of his bed, opened his carry-all, before dragging out a square, silver case, the edges rounded neatly. Smiling faintly, he scooted back to lean against the bed's headboard and rolled the cigar case around in his hands. Underneath were several marks, proving the material to be of silver. Well polished, the case shone like a mirror, its rounded construction bending the reflection in its surface.

Wrapping fingers and thumb around either side, he used hus thumbs to pry open one side, before opening the case on its hinges. Inside the velvet-lined case sat a row of cigars, about twice the thickness of a cigarette and twice the length. Around one end was a thin label, marked with the Dessarian insignia. "I little piece of home." He said with a smile, before biting off the sealed end, and chewing it lazily as he searched his person for a lighter.

After fishing out the petrol lighter, Demetrius flipped the lid and struck the flint, the wick catching with the scent of petrol filling the air. Holding the sustained flame to the cigar's end, Demetrius spat the chewed cigar end into a close-by bin, before dragging on the cigar, and letting it catch.

With a flick of his wrist, the lid snapped shut on the lighter and choked the flame. "The taste of Dessaria..." He smirked. "Ain't healthy, but neither is being in a business trying to shoot people..." He laughed to himself, before taking another pull on the cigar. "If I wanted to live forever, I'd have become a doctor or a nurse!"

Lep stood over one of the crewmembers piloting the airship. His eyes remained glued to one of the gauges, reading the status of Engine #2. Wrench and his repair crew wanted to see if they couldn't pick up some supplies in Norune to repair the engine, so they would have to look at the gauge, then pray nothing went wrong.

"Now entering Saguarian Airspace!" The Helmsman gave the navigator a nod to acknowledge the information, the radioman listening in on the broadcasts below. Looking out at the temprid desert nation below them, he picked up the intercom phone and cleared his throat.

"This is your captain speaking. If you would look out of any of the windows, you will see the temperate desert nation of Saguaria. There seems to be a storm blowing off in the distance, but don't worry, we'll be fine, our flight path doesn't go anywhere near it. The bar is now open for refreshments, and we should be having nothing but clear skies all the way to Norune."
